The first step in editing your realmlist.wtf file is to ensure that you can access file extensions.
- Open the CONTROL PANEL (from the Start Menu)
- Open the FOLDER OPTIONS
- Click on the VIEW tab at the top of the FOLDER OPTIONS window
- UN-check the "HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES"
This will allow you to alter the .WTF portion of the file which is a common problem to the next step.
Again, due to the default security settings in Vista, editing the realmlist can give you problems. Here's an easy way to circumvent the problem:
- Navigate to your World Of Warcraft folder (C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Make a copy of EXISTING (original) realmlist.wtf file
- RENAME the existing realmlist.wtf to something else (i.e. realmlist.OLD)
- RENAME the "Copy of realmlist.wtf" to realmlist.wtf
- Using NOTEPAD, edit the NEW realmlist.wtf with the appropriate settings and save.
